Easter is always about children, family, get together and fun. It is about bringing in good will and cheer and gifts and joy. While there are traditions to follow and it remembers the God’s name and prays, there is also a lot of fun stuff that gets done during Easter. The celebration of spirit of Easter day includes making Easter eggs, rabbit cakes and special deserts and decorations. Including the family in getting everything ready makes it even more fun and helps bond and getting closer with one another.

Natural colours

So here is something new to do while getting your Easter eggs coloured. Try using natural dyes to keep it safe and teach the kids to stay away from chemicals as far as possible. Wash the eggs well and dry. Then place in a non metal pan with the dye and add two table spoons of vinegar to a quart of water. Bring to a boil and then simmer for around 15 minutes. If the colour is to your liking take out the eggs and wipe off the excess water and set on a wire rack to dry. If you would like to get darkest colours with homemade Easter recipes then steep it in the dye for longer or until it cools down.

Coffee for brown and berries for lavender

The longer you keep the eggs in the natural dye, the richer the colours will be and then make sure you store it in the refrigerator. Here are some of the natural Easter eggs dyes that you can make out of things at home. For a rich coffee colour use one quart strong coffee and some water to dye the eggs.
Around 4 cups of blueberries steeped in boiling water will give you a beautiful lavender colour while beet juice and the vinegar will give you enchanting shades of pink, perfect celebration of the spirit of Easter day.

Turmeric for yellow eggs

Turmeric powder is a well known natural dye and you can get brilliant yellows while mixing around 3 tablespoons of this magic spice in water. Once you are done with colouring the Easter eggs you can move on to making some delicious Easter desert idea which is a must on the table this beautiful day of celebration.

Bunny cakes made easy

You could try your hand at making lovely little bunny cup cakes with regular vanilla cupcakes. Decorate using flaked coconut and marshmallows and food colouring and M & Ms to get the eyes ears and whiskers done! Take a large marshmallow and squeeze flat and cut into ear shapes and dip in pink colour and use a tooth pick to fix them on to the bunny head!

With Easter back again it’s time for all the fun that comes with it. Of course it is a religious function that we celebrate as God’s love and blessings. However, the fun side of Easter makes for a lot of preparation and coming together of friends and families every year. A time for celebration and joy. It is that time of the year when we spread cheer and love around. It is the time for Easter bunnies and eggs, decorations, candies and so much more.

Easter eggs

Easter day always brings to mind Easter eggs. So let’s look at something different to do while colouring the eggs for Easter day celebration! You will need –

  • Eggs 12
  • White vinegar 2 teaspoons
  • Food colouring 40 drops
  • Crayons white and stickers to decorate the eggs

This is fun

Hard boil the eggs in a large pan with water enough to cover the eggs. Then bring to a boil for 3-4 minutes and turn off the heat. Keep the pan covered and set aside for ten minutes. Once cool you can start the colouring and decoration.

Add a cup of water into a glass bowl and combine the food colouring and vinegar and stir. Add colours of your choice and have different bowls with different colours if you so desire.

Decorate the eggs with crayons and stickers and let your imagination flow while doing so.

Take a spoon and dip the eggs into the coloured water until evenly coated. Thereafter carefully place on a rack to dry.

This is a great way to involve the kids as they would love to decorate the eggs in their own special way.

Goodie basket

Another must have at Easter is a goodie basket which could be the best part of Easter day. Here is something different from the usual candy basket. Why don’t you buy buckets or sand pails from the store and fill them with a variety of goodies and surprises that can be used and played with well after Easter. Children will really love this little surprise. If you can keep a rabbit theme it could be even more fun. Fix a bunny picture on to the bucket and fill it with crayons or paints, colouring books, candy, small toys, reading books, little trinkets for the girls and so much more can be added in.

Balloons for the Easter spirit

Blow up balloons in different colours and strew them around the place. Paint on them little bunny mouths or put stickers on them to complete the Easter look!
